Our staff play a key part in the success of the nursery as they encourage and support the children in their development. The Deputy Managers role is to work with the proprietors, Manager/s and staff team to ensure that the care the children receive is high quality and to reassure parents/carers that their child is being left in a safe, caring and educational environment.
Job purpose

・ To co-ordinate and manage the daily operation of the Nursery as required by the Proprietor/Manager
・ To co-ordinate the administration of the Nursery as required by the Proprietor/Manager
・ To assume responsibility for the Nursery, its daily running and administration in the absence of the Proprietor/Manager
・ To ensure that you adhere to the policies and procedures of the Nursery as you fulfil your role as Deputy Manager
General responsibilities
To ensure the teams effectively deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS)
To support the team in contributing to and implementing the planning and EYFS curriculum for all children
To ensure the care delivered is based upon a Child Centred Curriculum which ensures broad and varied Educational, Social, Emotional, Cultural and Physical Development opportunities for children
To encourage and develop partnership with parents and carers, ensuring that parents and carers needs, thoughts and concerns are taken seriously and addressed
To encourage parental participation in the Nursery
To participate in and where required lead/deliver training activities and development days.
To assist with meeting the training and professional development needs of the staff team, to include inductions, team meetings and appraisals
To keep abreast of current thinking, practice and legislation in Early Years and implement necessary changes within the Nursery with the Proprietor/Manager
To ensure Health & Safety standards are consistently met throughout the Nursery
To ensure ratios are maintained at all times
To ensure the Nursery remains a safe environment for the health and personal care of children at all times
To model/lead providing a varied, fun, safe and stimulating environment
To ensure staff appropriately use and maintain documentation within their rooms
To work as part of the management team bringing the philosophy of the Nursery into practice
Show prospective clients around the Nursery and co-ordinate the registration process
Undertake Nursery cleaning tasks and responsibilities as required
Ensure stock levels are maintained
Help prepare for inspections
Cover late shifts/early shifts as required
Other duties as required by the Manager
Key responsibilities
To have key-holder responsibility, opening and locking up the Nursery as required
Assisting with staff recruitment, following nursery recruitment policy and procedures
To assist with managing staff performance to include assisting with poor performance and disciplinary action
Supervising and co-ordinating staff training and professional development needs
To assist and supervise students
Ensuring a fair delegation of tasks and responsibilities throughout the Nursery
Support and liaise with the Proprietor/Manager on a daily basis
To work in rooms providing care as required
To work in rooms modelling good practice on an on-going basis
To ensure that the preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the Nursery class/play rooms are carried out according to the policies, procedures and risk assessments
To ensure good practice and hygiene are maintained to a high standard within the kitchen and food preparation, serving and storage within the Nursery
Liaise with parents/carers maintaining and modelling a high level of parent/carer partnership
Monitor and respond to accident, incident and risk assessments
Assisting the Proprietor/manager with organising and participating in regular parents/carers evenings, effective marketing, weekend events, fund raising and childrens outings
To build and maintain a high level of occupancy within the whole Nursery
Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed b the Proprietor/Manager
When working in a Nursery there are often tasks and responsibilities that are in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. All staff are, there¬fore, expected to work in a flexible way. This includes working outside your usual Nursery hours as stated in your contract.
